3 Ways to Increase Water Flow in Your Homes Plumbing

Water flow is important when it comes to your home’s plumbing system. You want water flowing nicely out of your sinks, showers, bathtubs & other home plumbing fixtures. Water that has poor/low water flow for showers, for example, would make you unhappy because you wouldn’t be able to get a full shower with lukewarm water at best. The amount of water that comes out of your showerhead or faucet nozzle also affects the warmth of the water.

If you have a home plumbing issue with low water flow, THERE ARE 3 WAYS THAT YOU INCREASE WATER FLOW.

THE FIRST WAY is on the outside of your home in the plumbing service line from your home into the main supply line coming out of the ground. There is a regulator valve called the main stop valve on your home side of this turn off which can increase/decrease pressure and increase/decrease water flow speed and volume allowing more or less to come down the supply line and increase/decrease both pressure and volume at once. You can increase water flow through this use of adjusting & cleaning your home’s exterior (external) mains stop valves (installed by local municipality). Cleaning means removing any sediment build-up within the main stop valve and increasing water flow by doing this.

SECONDLY, if the problem is not on your side of the meter (inside your home), then it can be at the home primary shut off/turn off from public main coming into your house which would increase/decrease water flow pressure & volume as well as increase/decrease both simultaneously from inside or outside your home. You can increase water flow through this use of adjusting & cleaning your home’s internal (inside) plumbing system service line turn-offs (installed by local municipality). Cleaning means removing any sediment build-up within these plumbing system service line turn-offs and increasing water flow by doing this.

THIRDLY, a common cause for a lack of increase in water flow is dirt and sediment build up within your home plumbing system & increase/decrease both pressure & volume simultaneously with one use of adjusting & cleaning the internal plumbing system service line turn-off. Cleaning means removing any sediment build-up within these plumbing system service line turn-offs and increasing water flow by doing this.

DO NOT INCREASE WATER FLOW IF YOU DO NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO INCREASE IT because you can damage your home’s internal plumbing system if done incorrectly.

LASTLY, be aware that there are provincial rules (laws) about what you can/cannot adjust inside your home (water pressure). If unsure about this, consult a home inspector or supplier before making any changes at all to increase water flow & increase/decrease pressure.

This is because if you increase water flow & increase/decrease pressure at the same time, it can cause damage to your home plumping which means you are responsible. It is also a good idea to increase water flow & increase/decrease pressure outside of your home before inside. This way, if you increase water flow inside your home’s plumbing system and damage it, then at least the responsibility falls on you to fix it. It does not fall on the city or municipality that increased water flow by adjusting the mains stop valves outside, which is normally one way to increase water flow in your home’s plumbing system.
